Alternate Grading Schemes:

You may choose between two schemes for determining your final grade:

• Option A: your grade is determined by 50% Exams, 30% Project, and 20% Homework;

or

• Option B: your grade is determined without Homework; only by 5/8 Exams and 3/8 Project.

It is my personal belief that choosing Option B would be foolish. I believe (and there is ample documentary empirical evidence in support of this belief) that homework problems are an excellent way to prepare for the exams. Further, the weekly deadline of problem sets keeps students studying regularly.

You may choose to disregard these warnings. That's your choice. I believe in giving every consenting adult enough rope to hang herself or himself.

Since this option shouldn't be an unlimited grade scrounge, you must make your choice early in the semester. If Option B is not chosen by the date announced in class, you will be assumed to be wise and choosing Option A.
