For
Computer Exercises, your study group
should hand in a single assignment. When
submitting assignments, please include your
name and the assignment number as part of the filename. Please write the names of your study group
members at the beginning of your homework. These assignments will be available to all
members of the class.
1. What are the names of the people in your study group?
2. Using the PUMS data again, state a hypothesis that can be tested using the available information there. Carefully specify the null hypothesis (including the form of the test statistic), the distribution of the test statistic, and the conclusions from the hypothesis test. Do this twice more, for three hypothesis tests in total. Write a careful short overview – don't give me raw output (except as appendix)!
3. Find a recent news item that hinged upon a statistical hypothesis test (implicitly or explicitly) and explain the formal test. Specify the null hypothesis, the form of the test statistic, the distribution of the test statistic, and whether there is sufficient information to decide whether or not to reject the null hypothesis. (You need not actually yet do the test, just state the form.)
