Homework assignments
are graded as check-plus, check, check-minus; late homework is discouraged and
penalized. The grades convert at 10,8,6; late are half that amount. Late homeworks are still better than nothing, since missing homework is 0.
Exams
are scored as a fraction of possible points although I may give vague
guidelines about what score could correspond to A, B, C ranges. Note that all performance is relative: if the
average student scored 20/75 then 30/75 is good!
The
final grade is calculated by weighting the homework average and exam scores,
which are then ranked to determine each student's position in
the class. You have an option of a "high-risk" grading scheme, which
doesn't count homework -- more information is on the class web page.
Your
grade is determined by the work done during the term, in the same manner for
every student in the class. No subsequent extra credit work can compensate for
poor exam and homework grades. Don't even bother to ask. Also, no incompletes!
